Where is refrigerator drain tube




















A clogged drain can cause a refrigerator to leak. Once you reach the drain, you will need to unclog it. This is true regardless of the model of the refrigerator. Refer to the Top-freezer Drain Out Back section if you have a blocked drain on your top freezer.

First, clear the drain of ice. The drain will almost always have ice on it if it is blocked. Use hot water to melt any ice buildup. Unclog the drain after the ice has been removed. A turkey baser is the best and easiest way to unclog your drain. Use hot water to fill the baser and force water down the drain until it flows freely. The drain must be cleaned once water is flowing freely.

Two things can be used to clean leaking refrigerator drains bleach and baking soda. Baking soda is my favorite. Mix half and half of bleach with water, and pour two cups down the sink. Sometimes, you may need to install a heat exchanger to clear a blocked drain. Although this is not usually necessary, it is worth considering if your drain is clogging. This can only be done if your refrigerator has a Calrod metal defrost heating element.

If you are using a glass heater, do not attempt it. Wrap a piece of copper wire around the heater, then place the other end inside the drain.

When the refrigerator is set to defrost mode, this will conduct heat to drain to melt any ice. A rubber grommet sometimes called a duckbill because of its shape, is found in some refrigerators. This can clog drains and cause them to back up.

The drain hole may clog up at times and using a solution of baking soda mixed with water can keep it clean and unclogged.

Use 1 tablespoon of baking soda with approx 2 or 3 cups of hot water. Doing this a few times a year can help to stop refrigerator water leaks on the floor. You can remove the plastic plug if you are troubleshooting a problem, or need it to drain, but always put the plug back on as designed. However, the plug may be incorporated in the design of that particular refrigerator and the refrigerator is designed to keep the plastic plug in place. Beginning to wonder if there is a drain pan under refrigerator and is it accessible behind bottom grill does it just pull straight off?? It would make sense then that it only leaks when it automatically defrosts and then comes right out on floor if there was no pan.
